நான் பத்தாம் வகுப்பு பயிலும் போது நாளிதழ்களை வாசிக்கும் பழக்கம் உருவாகியது. காதலர் தினத்தைக் குறித்த எனது கண்களில் விழுந்த முதல் செய்தி அது. கோவை வ.ஊ.சி.யில் ஒரு இணை ஒரு நான்கு சக்கர வாகனத்திற்கு பின்புறம் உடலில் உடையின்றி கலவியில் ஈடுபட்டிருக்கும் பொழுது அந்த வாகனம் எடுத்து சென்றதைக் கூட அறியாமல் காதலர் தினத்தைக் கொண்டாடித் தீர்த்ததை அங்கு இருந்த மாணவர்கள், பொது மக்கள் அனைவரும் பார்த்ததாகவும், காவல் துறையினர் அவர்களை கைது செய்து பின்னர் எச்சரித்து அனுப்பியதாகவும் செய்தி முடிவுற்றது. அய்ய ச்சீ! என்ற அந்த ஒரு நொடி காதலை என் மனதில் வக்கிரம் கொண்டதாக பதிய வைத்தது. காரணம் காதலர் தினம். இந்த விஷயத்தை நான் பொதுமைப்படுத்த முனையமாட்டேன். இதுவே என் முதல் அனுபவம் என வெளிப்படையாகச் சொல்கிறேன். இதற்கு முற்றிலும் மாறான ஒரு அனுபவமும் எனக்கு வாய்த்திருக்கிறது.

நான் முதுகலையில் முதலாமாண்டு முடியும் தருணம் அது. இம்முறை காதலர் தினத்தில் மற்றுமொரு செய்தி என் காதில் விழுந்தது, அது இம்முறை ஏடுகளில் அல்ல, நானும் அதில் ஓர் அங்கமானேன். எனது கல்லூரி நண்பன் என் கல்லூரி தோழி ஒருவரை தந்தை பெரயார் திராவிட கழகத்தில் வைத்து திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டான். சங்பரிவாரத்தைச் சார்ந்தவர்களுக்கும், திராவிட கழகத்தனருக்கும் பிரச்சனை முட்டியது. அந்த வாரம் முழுக்க கல்லூரியில் இதுதான் பேச்சு பிறகு மெதுவாக அடங்கியது. பிரச்சனைக்கு காரணம் நண்பன் உயர்ந்த சாதி, தோழி தாழ்ந்த சாதி. இருவரும் சாதி மறுப்பு திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டனர். சாதி என் குழந்தையில் இருந்து ஒழியும் என்றான் பெருமிதமாக. அட! செம இல்ல! என்றது என் மனம். காரணம் காதலர் தினம்.

காதலும் உழைப்பும் மனித குலத்தின் ஆதார வேர்கள். ஆனால் காதலின் பெயரால் உருவாக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் காதலர் தினம் யாருடைய ஆதாயத்திற்காக என்பதை குறித்தும் சிந்தை செய்ய வேண்டும். காதலர் தினத்தில் விற்பனை செய்யப்படும் ரோஜாக்களால் ஊட்டி விவசாயிகளோ, ஓகே சொல்லவோ, காதலர் தினத்தை வெறுக்கவோ எப்படியோ ஒரு புதிய நிறத்தில் வகுப்புகளில் மாணவர்கள் அணியும் ஆடைகளால் திருப்பூர் தொழிலாளர்களோ, விதம் விதமாக பரிசளிக்க காதலர்களால் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்படும் பரிசுகளால் கைவினைக் கலைஞர்களோ பெரிதாக எந்தப் பயனும் அடைவதில்லை. அப்படியானால் யாரிடம் பலனடைகிறார்கள்? இதிலிருந்துதான் தொடங்குகிறது காதலர் தினத்தின் சூட்சுமம்.

காதலர் தினத்தில் நடனமாட ஒரு நடிகைக்கு கோடியில் பணம் வழங்கப்படுகிறது என்றால் அந்த நிகழ்வு ஏற்பாடு செய்யும் பணக்கார கரண்டிகளுக்கு கிடைக்கும் பிரதிபலன் என்னவாக இருக்கும்? யாரும் எண்ணிப் பார்த்திராத அளவு அதிகமாக ஆணுறை விற்பனை நடக்கும் நாள் காதலர் தினமென்றால் அன்று நடக்கும் ஒழுக்கச் சீர்கேடுகள் யாரை பாதிக்கிறது? பாலியல் சுரண்டலுக்கு இந்த நாள் வழிவக்கவில்லை என்று யாராவது சொல்ல முடியுமா? காதலர் தினத்தை மூர்க்கமாக எதிர்க்கும் ‘கலாச்சார காவலர்களின்’ கண்ணோட்டத்தில் நமக்கு உடன்பாடில்லை. அதே வேளை இந்த தினத்தின் மீதான குற்றச்சாட்டுகளை முற்றிலுமாக யாரும் மறுக்க இயலாது.
